Gemechu is a seasoned legal professional and one of the founding partners of Ethio Legal Shield LLP (ELS). Prior to assuming this role, he honed his expertise in Company law, Tax law, and litigation practicing law at different levels and institutions for the past 15 years. A graduate of Mekelle University in 2009, Gemechu’s career trajectory includes a significant tenure as a Federal Public Prosecutor within the Ministry of Justice, where he served as both a trial attorney and a legislative drafter.

Gemechu’s international engagements underscore his commitment to legal excellence. Representing Ethiopia, he delivered a compelling paper on Corporate Social Responsibility of Companies to the Chinese legal community and potential investors during a visit to China. His experiences also extend to serving as a judge of the Federal Tax Appeal Commission. Gemechu has also  provided consultations to UN-Women, delivering impactful training sessions to law enforcement agencies, judges, and public prosecutors. His pivotal role as one of the drafters of the recently enacted Commercial Code of Ethiopia, alongside esteemed professionals such as Dr. Mulugeta Mengist Ayalew, attests to his significant contributions to the legal landscape of the country.

Gemechu’s prowess in the field of bankruptcy law has gained international recognition, with his participation in roundtable discussions hosted by Insolvency International in Kampala, Uganda, and Cape Town, South Africa.
